eastern shore
cub6265 asked:

I am on the shore, but 2 hours from Washington, D.C., Baltimore, MD. 3 hours to Arlington, VA.
And can I participate in a public viewing session? Thanks!
Thanks very much Jacob! I graduated from Parkside! I have lived on the west coast since then though.

Hey, Cub6265. I’m a fellow resident of the Eastern Shore. To my knowledge, there is only one planetarium on the entire peninsula, the one at Parkside High School in Salisbury. I took astronomy there back in High School and they’ve got a good system.

I believe that they have public demonstrations every few months, but I’m not certain and you’d need to contact them for details. I’m including the link to Parkside’s webpage, E-mail them to see how good my memory is; if I’m right, they can give you details.

Besides that one, there is a planetarium in Baltimore at the Maryland Science Center and I’m pretty sure there is one in Philadelphia as well. I don’ think there are any in Delaware and I’m positive there isn’t one elsewhere on MD’s Eastern Shore or in the Virginia portion of Delmarva.

I hope this helps.

If you go here:
you can search for every planetarium that exists in the world. The descriptions will state if they have public shows or observing sessions. There are also links to their websites (the ones that have websites, at least) so you can check those for more info.

You may also want to do a search for amateur astronomy associations in your area. They usually have public observing sessions. Any local planetarium will probably also have info on local astronomy clubs.
