Scott Y asked:

Since 1982 our Congress has put off limits most areas off shore for drilling. Oil prices are out of control, and we are becoming more dependant on Oil emports (2% per year). We have reserves off-shore that can be recovered TODAY with TODAY’s methods and become independent again. Why then has Congress shot this down again?

Our Congress is a complete failure(both parties), they do not represent the people any longer.

Saving the environment is more important then saving your family

Because when they researched the data, rather than the propoganda, they saw it would be big waste of time, resources, and money.

I know it sounds so simple “just drill! what’s the hold up?” but it’s more complicated than that, and the benefits are few, none of which include getting cheaper gas. Is cheaper gas not the goal?

…Congress (under the direction of Damascus Nancy) is protection is “beach front millionaires” like (drown’um off the bridge “Ted”) and the several “other” beach-fronters… Congress is in the “tank” with the Oil Co’s who could care less about drilling for more oil…. (that would mean they would have to work more for what they are already ******* out of us)…There is an answer… VOTE the bastards OUT !!!!

The problem with offshore drilling is the damage that is done to the enviornment is much more detromental than using the oil itself. A major spill into one of our oceans could permanently damage the ecosystem. Not only would all of the wildlife in the area of the spill be killed off, but we would lose all that oil we’d spend millions drilling for. Prices are rising now, but they will go down eventually. In the mean time, alternative furls are being developed and the United States has become more eco-friendly just in 2008 than we ever have been.

They should’ve done it a long time ago, now the expense on buidling one is too great. Plus if they build on it outputs less than 1% of the oil demand. Due to enviromentalists and a high cost they shot it down again. No worries though all the major car companies have set the date of 2010 when they are producing cars using PURELY alternative energy. No gasoline needed, GM for example is making one run on a battery that you have to recharge. Compared with current price and money it would cost only a mere 80 cents per gallon to fill up that car.

It will destroy the environment and cause economic disaster for the coast. “Plus” it will only bring down the cost of gas two cents a gallon.

Congress is composed of a bunch of bloody idiots and crooks. America is in deep trouble economically due to their inactivity and the inactivity of the man who sits in the Oval Office who can berely read and write.

It will go down about a nickel over the next decade at the best. It’s not going to have huge longterm effects except on the environment. Even if the US drilled all over the country we’d only have 2-3% of the needed national supply.
